Movies are the predominant source that Western culture has to illustrate
demonic possession. In reality, there are many other types of possession that we do not see in the movies. There are six levels of demonic presence.
External Physical Pain Caused by Satan
The mildest form of possession is simply referred to as “external physical pain caused by Satan”.This is when the victim experiences physical ailments due to a demonic presence in their body; this may be any ache or pain, illness, or suddenly onset disfiguration. Since it only effects the body, and not the soul, these individuals do not require an exorcism, only prayers.
Demonic Possession
“Demonic possession” is defined as when a demonic entity fully possesses the body of a person. There are a variety
of “symptoms” associated with this level of possession. They may include superhuman abilities (levitation, super strength, mind reading, etc.), speaking in tongues, sudden personality change, extreme violence, or sexual obsessions. These symptoms may come in waves, causing the person and their loved ones to think the phase has passed, when in reality the demon is lying dormant within
their body, waiting to appear again.
Diabiolical Oppression
“Diabolical oppression” is not an actual possession of the flesh, rather it is a series of unfortunate events that plague the individual. Events such as loss of job, death of a loved one, or persistent health issues are common at this level of demonic presence.
Diabolical Obsession
“Diabolical obsession” is a condition where the victim is plagued with persistent thoughts that severely contradict their actual beliefs. These thoughts are overwhelming and often drive the person to act irrationally.
Diabolical Infestation
The next level, “diabolical infestation” is another facet of demonic activity that many are familiar with. This is when demonic entities infest a place, object, or animal.
Diabolical Subjugation
The sixth and final type of activity is “diabolical subjugation”, which requires the possessed to have sold their soul to the devil, or have made some sort of blood pact. Unlike the other types, this form is brought on by the individual.
